Poetry And Illustrations By Vivette
The following are examples of poetry/verse within the theme of war and on being a child evacuee in wartime.
Vivette has also penned a selection of children's poetry - on various themes.
On Being An Evacuee
I had to leave
My Mum, my Dad, my Dog.
That is why
I sit here
On this log
Under the branches
Of the old oak tree.
I had become
An evacuee.
I had to bring
A small tin box,
With an Oxo cube,
A biscuit,
And a bar of choc.
Just enough for me.
They said it was my
Emergency Tea.
For I had become,
An evacuee.
They said,
Here is your Aunty May.
Here is your Uncle Jack.
Stay with them,
Until such times
Children can all go back.
So I stayed with that Aunty May,
And I stayed with that Uncle Jack,
Until such times
Children could all go back.
While bombs are falling
On London Town,
I sit here pondering
On this log.
And I can't help thinking
About my Mum, my Dad, my Dog.
I hear the birds singing
In this old oak tree,
For I had become
An evacuee.

Picnic For A Soldier

Our brother is a soldier,
But they sent him home to rest.
So we took him for a picnic
To a place he loved the best.
We took him to the meadow,
Where tall ox-eye daisies grow,
Where flowering grasses sway,
When summer breezes blow.
We ate our picnic slowly,
Under the shadow of the trees,
And our soldier brother lay down deep
Amongst the grasses and closed his eyes awhile;
Soon asleep, the only sound,
Our soldier brother heard,
Was the humming of the bees,
The sun moved, but gently,
In soft rays across his face.
And we wondered then;
Was our soldier brother dreaming,
Of a far, far, different place?
